Our mission
To restore dignity, health and companionship to older people in Murang'a through care that comes from their own community.
Our vision
A Kenya where every elder is known by name, cared for at home and honoured by the generations they raised.
Our name
"Kumbuka" means remember and "wazee" means elders. Our name is a promise: we will not forget them.
Meet Joyce
Joyce started Kumbuka Wazee as a self-help group with neighbours who shared one worry: too many older people around them were struggling quietly and alone.
For several years the group met, saved together, and took turns visiting elders with food, company and help. As the need grew, Joyce led the group to register as an NGO in 2024, so that the work could welcome partners, volunteers and donors from beyond the village.
Today she leads a team of volunteers who still do what the group always did: knock on the door, sit down, and ask "how are you, really?"
