Every elder deserves to be remembered.
Kumbuka Wazee means "remember the elders". We are neighbours who visit, feed, and care for older people in Murang'a, so that no grandmother or grandfather grows old alone.

The year we became a registered NGO
It started with neighbours who refused to forget.
For several years, a small self-help group in Murang'a pooled what it had to check on the older people around it: a visit, a meal, a lift to the clinic, a listening ear.
Led by our founder, Joyce, the group grew into Kumbuka Wazee Initiative and was registered as an NGO in 2024. Today we organise that same neighbourly care so it can reach more elders, more often, and for longer.
- Care that comes to the elder's home, not the other way round
- Run by people from the community, who know each family by name
- Every shilling and every volunteer hour goes to elders
See Kumbuka Wazee in action
From our launch to food days in the villages, meet the elders and the neighbours who care for them.
Care that covers the whole person
Growing old in a village should mean dignity, company and a full plate. These are the ways we make that happen.
Home visits
Volunteers visit elders who live alone to talk, help around the home and notice when something is wrong.
Food & essentials
Food parcels, blankets, soap and other basics for elders who can no longer farm or earn.
Health access
Help getting to clinics, screening days, and support with medicine for long-term conditions.
Fellowship
Gatherings where elders share a meal, stories and laughter, and are honoured by the young.
Choose where your gift goes
Monthly food parcels for 100 elders
Maize flour, beans, cooking oil, sugar and tea delivered to elders who live alone.
A health and eye-care day for elders
Blood pressure, sugar and eye checks, reading glasses and referrals, all in one day near home.
Warm blankets for the cold months
Murang'a's highland nights are cold. A thick blanket and a warm sweater keep an elder healthy.
Our elders carried us when we were small. Now it is our turn to carry them.
